I put together a bathroom design to take my builder-grade vanity and mirror to the next level. I incorporated the lights and plumbing fixtures I already had and breathed new life into the space by painting my vanity blue.

If you would like to learn about how I painted the cabinets or added shiplap visit this post.

For this project we were keeping our shower tile, floors, plumbing and light fixtures. So I needed to create a design that would blend seamlessly with parts of our existing bathroom. We do plan to tile the floor later on, so that was a small consideration as I put together this design.

Design Choices

As with almost all my design projects, I looked at hundreds of inspiration photos picking out what I liked best. I then had to run them by my partner to make sure he was also on board with the plan. Here are the explanations behind each design decision.

Cabinet Paint Color: When picking a vanity paint color you want to coordinate with the other colors existing in your space. I chose the Adirondack Blue because I wanted something to go with the greige (beige/grey) tile in our bathroom shower and around our tub. I would say the tile is the predominate color in the space and I wanted something that would pull it to the cooler - gray side of the color wheel. The brown cabinets where definitely pulling out the browns in the tile more, which was not the look we were going for. I also needed something that still coordinated with other predominate color in the space our gold tones in the floor.

Pulls: I love black metal accents and I am not afraid to mix metals. So although my plumbing fixtures are brushed nickel, I chose matte black pulls and coordinating knobs that I got from Amazon. I think sometimes having different metals can create more interest in a space. These have held up extremely well over the past two years despite the lower price point.

Mirrors: To help this bathroom look more complete and custom, I added two mirrors. You don't need to buy the most expensive or high-end mirrors to change the feel of your bathroom. I found these cuties at Target from the Studio Mcgee-Threshold line. They were the perfect size, helping to make the space look taller with their slim profiles. Link to a similar mirror.

Hooks: The next th

ing I did was to change over all the towel holders to hooks. I like hooks better. I think they give a more sophisticated look and towels dry faster. I did these hooks in black as well to coordinate with the black pulls and they had a higher contrast against the white walls. Link to the hooks I used.

This design came together mostly over 6 months and then was completed with the hooks almost 2 years after I began. Home takes time. Put together what you can as you have the time and the budget.

Remember, it is extremely helpful to have a complete vision at the beginning to make sure everything comes together at the end.

I can help you create the vision for your space and give you a virtual blueprint to refer to as you have money or budget to bring it to life. I will make sure that the items selected are within a price range and budget you are comfortable with. Interior design doesn't need to feel intimidating or be out of your reach financially. Shoot me an email and we can set up a time to chat and walk through the process.
